Vintage Bicycle Association ~ PAST EVENTS
Independence A'wheel - July 1999
Start with great  coffee & pastry breakfast at the X"Naked Bean Cafe", now "Surf Dog's Java Hut", 1126 South Coast Hwy 101, Encinitas.  Just north of Swami's.  After we're sufficiently caffeinated, we'll depart  at 10 AM heading south to UCSD ~ An easy, scenic 25 mile ride, except for the climb up to UCSD.   Take the long gradual climb up Torrey Pines Grade, or the more challenging one through the reserve.  Or... Since it's an out & back loop, you can cut the hill entirely and still meet us back at "the Hut" for another cup!   Either way this is a ride not to be missed!  See you there!  For info, call Charles:  619-484-5443
Charles & Mary O'Toole on last year's July 4th ride.  We were amazed at the lack of beach traffic that day, despite perfect weather.  Maybe everyone assumes it will be a zoo, or the focus is on evening festivities… Whatever, this is the perfect day for a summer beach ride.  That's Kmart's "blue light special" inventor, Charles riding the authentically restored, Campagnolo equipped, J.C. Higgins from Sears!
Rose Bowl Round-up

As the photo of Chuck's Gillot shows, roses are not the only beauty in Pasadena.  Last time, 8 riders attended with a nice mix of interesting machines.  The Boston heavyweight of lightweight aficionados, Ken Denny, astride a Legnano leant by Chuck, attended as our guest.
Start at 10:00 at Rose Bowl Aquatic Center picnic area at south end of the Rose Bowl park.  Ride along Arroyo Seco through South Pasadena, San Marino,  Sierra Madre, Pasadena, and Altadena.  Verging on flat or slightly hilly.  25 to 35.   1 1/2 to 2 hrs.  Picnic lunch and parts swap out of car trunks.  For further information: Chuck Schmidt  323-256-0815
